Featured Wedding Pro: Deans' Duets

Deans’ Duets began as a sister-duo. Megan & I started violin lessons at age 3, and although we were practicing and performing a lot, we were losing interest and getting burned out by the time we were 11 & 13. Our mom knew we needed a boost, so she made business cards for us and started handing them out around town, in Hickory. Before we knew it, we were booking lots of weddings - and we were a lot more motivated to practice with a little extra spending money as our motivation!

Now, Megan and I are 29 & 31.... Almost 20 years later, with music school and lots of experience under our belts, we still love it!

We’ve recently started working with some awesome other musicians who play other instruments so we can provide different ensemble combinations, so we’ve now expanded to include violin, cello, piano, guitar, and harp (and we’re working on more!)

We play throughout the Carolinas and sometimes even venture to Virginia, West Virginia, and Florida. We love the high country area because we’ve come to know lots of the amazing vendors up there, and we have such fun at those venus. We used to live in Boone, so it’s like our second home! We enjoy the Charlotte weddings too though - big city weddings bring an entire different energy to the ceremony. It would be tough to pick a favorite.

Our most-served cities are Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, Charlotte, Hickory, Greensboro, Winston Salem, Statesville, Lincolnton, Rock Hill, Columbia, and Greenville, SC.

In a traditional ceremony, we usually play 30 minutes of pre-ceremony music, followed immediately by seating mothers, bridal party entrances, and then the bride. For us, it’s 40-45 minutes of constant playing, mixed with so much energy and excitement! There’s always this moment when the bride walks down the aisle, and we make sure the music ends at the perfect moment... then there is silence for the first time in almost an hour... just before the officiant starts the ceremony. And it’s always in that moment that we feel such satisfaction for pulling together another epic moment and grateful to have played such a role in the day. That moment is addicting! I feel that way in every single wedding I play... and I never get used to it!

We started our group as a classical duo, but pop music has become so popular! We specialize in making our own covers of pop songs. Even if there is no music available, we’ll take on the challenge! It’s important to us that our couples have exactly the music they want. So, if there’s a way to make it work, we will.
